Nasrallah: Israeli Occupation Entity Benefits from Events in Syria to Wage War on Gaza

BEIRUT, (SANA) – Hizbullah Secretary-General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said that the Israeli occupation entity is benefiting from conflicts in the region and Syria to wage its aggression on Gaza, regretting remarks made by the political leaderships in some Arab countries that the war against Gaza aimed at diverting attention away from Syria.

Nasrallah remarks came during in his speech marking Ashura.

He wondered that "does it make sense that Binyamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak wage a war against Gaza to divert attention away from Syria since their objectives are clear?"

"Today’s aggression is happening in a different context from 2008. In 2008, the Resistance axis was more capable of extending support to Gaza and the resistance there and this was the case before 2008 and after 2008. One of the supply channels to Gaza has now been suspended and that is Syria. It can no longer provide logistical support, although it can still take a political stance in support of Resistance," he added.

Secretary General of Hizbullah said that "Israel is taking advantage of the events in Syria, the reversal of priorities and the transformation of enemies into friends and friends into enemies. It considers this as a good opportunity to restore its deterrence and to strike at missile capabilities in Gaza, which Israel is aware, will be hard to replace in light of the situation in Syria."

Nasrallah said that the Israeli aggression on Gaza is an episode of the episodes of the bloody, historic and decisive confrontations between the Resistance and the Zionist enemy and those behind it that will decide the destiny of Palestine, the region and the whole nation.

He said that the “main bet” is on the will of the people in Gaza and the will of the resistance there.

Hizbullah Secretary-General condemned the Israeli aggression, urged the Arab and Muslim governments, countries and people as well as all free people in the world to support Gaza and its people and resistance.

Nasrallah called upon the Arab and Islamic countries to supply Gaza with weapons and use oil to pressure the U.S. and Europe into ending their support for Israel.

Abu Abdo added that he has information that confirms that Turkish weapons have been purchased by Saudi and Qatari money as to be smuggled to Syria.

Abu Abdo confessed to smuggling communication devices, vests, weapons and munitions to the so-called 'free army', adding that lots of goods, including food, medicine and other basic materials, are being brought to Syria from abroad because of the international sanctions imposed on the county.

Lavrov: The West Is Reconsidering Its Stance towards the Syrian Opposition

Nov 08, 2012

MOSCOW, (SANA) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the West is reconsidering its stances towards the Syrian opposition.

He added in an interview with the Russian RIA Novosti news agency and the newspapers of Moskovskiy, Russia in Global Affairs and Novosti, published on Thursday, that he has an impression that for the past few weeks the West's stance towards the Syrian opposition has started to change remarkably.

Lavrov attributed this change to the frustration over the failure in unifying this opposition on the one hand and the growing fears of the domination of new powers other than those on which the West was betting on the other hand.

The Russian Foreign Minister continued to say that Moscow believes that it is essential and crucial that the opposition gets unified around the Geneva Statement, pointing out that up till now attempts to unify the opposition groups have been done on the ground of working against the Syrian government, which is wrong.

Lavrov stressed that Russia is continuing its efforts in this regard, as it has been meeting representatives of the various opposition groups to enhance the idea of dialogue between them and the Syrian government.

Ryabkov : Moscow Convinced that Geneva Statement Still Vital, Countries of Influence on Syrian opposition Don't Use their Influence to Find Solution to Crisis
Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on Thursday said Moscow is convinced that Geneva Statement is still vital. Itar-Tass News Agency quoted Ryabkov as saying that and that countries which have influence on the Syrian opposition don't not use their influence to find solution to the crisis in Syria.

"Western players who have influence on the Syrian opposition don't not do their job well," he said, adding that this thing is likely to be intentional. He made it clear that Russia do everything to stop the violence and begin a comprehensive political process in Syria.

"We are not confident that the Syrian government's unilateral concessions will be the way to settle the situation, it is impossible for the ceasefire to be a unilateral," the Russian official said.

Ryabkov stressed that Moscow's position depends on the correct reading and unquestionable standards of the interpretation law. " However, we do not lose the hope as there are still opportunities to find a solution to the crisis in Syria,"

He said: " Talks with the Syrian opposition is continued," adding: " A number of representatives of the Syrian opposition came to Moscow to hold talks with the Russian officials and this work is continued on a daily basis as there is still a possibility that should be exploited."

Lukashevich: Moscow exerts more Efforts to stop violence in Syria
Spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich affirmed that Moscow will exert more efforts on all levels to halt violence in Syria, saying that improving the humanitarian situation in Syria would not be realized except by a political solution to the crisis.

At a press conference, Lukashevich said that the humanitarian situation in Syria is deteriorating due to the unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria by some countries.

"The true criterion to evaluate any meeting for the Syrian opposition lies in the participants' readiness to find a peaceful resolution to the crisis in the country by virtue of the Syrians only, without any foreign intervention and through dialogue." Lukashevich added.

Ambassador Abu Saeed: Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey Responsible for Every Drop of Blood Spilled in Syria

 Original article at: http://208.43.232.81/eng/22/2012/11/03/450382.htm

BEIRUT, (SANA) - Ambassador of the International High Commission for Human Rights in the Middle East, member of the International Parliament for Safety and Peace, Haitham Abu Saeed (image), held the countries supporting terrorism responsible for every drop of blood spilled in Syria.

In an interview with Syrian TV on Friday, Abu Saeed pointed out to the involvement of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey in what is happening in Syria, saying "the involvement of Saudi Arabia and Qatar in what is happening in Syria is plain and clear and they declare this through the media .. we regret this and condemn it.

"We have asked them to stop this immediately, and we add our voice to the voice of Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon in demand not only from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, but also from Turkey which may be involved more than others, to stop supporting militants… we hold them fully responsible yesterday, today and in the future for every drop of blood spilled in Syria."

Abu Saeed described the position of Ki-moon on the need to stop supporting armed groups in Syria as being serious, explaining that this position is based on the facts that indicate the presence of terrorist organizations in the Syrian interior which work to undermine security and the Syrian society.

He noted that the International High Commission for Human Rights demanded the cessation of arming the opposition, saying "we were optimistic regarding the need to limit arming in Syria since the beginning of the events… we have referred to these topics since the beginning and we had accurate information that we listen to through the International Investigations Office belonging to the International Parliament for Safety and Peace and the International High Commission for Human Rights, which provides us with all the security and intelligence information about topics that are assigned to it."

Abu Saeed pointed out that European sides gave documented that only five percent of the so-called armed opposition are Syrians and the rest are of multiple non-Syrian nationalities.

Abu Saeed said that the opposition exploits the massacres it commits prior to international conferences on Syria, stressing that the International High Commission for Human Rights relies in its reports on concrete evidence and objectivity, not emotions and political whims.

He explained that the opposition accuse the Syrian government of massacres, while the Commission carried out investigations, discovering that sides in the opposition benefited from these massacres and exploited them.

Abu Saeed also condemned Turkey's hijacking of the Syrian plane and later the Armenian plane, describing such acts as Mafia-like and violating international aviation laws.

He went on to stress that change in Syria cannot come through violence, but rather through ballots, noting that the international community is aware of the strength and popularity of President Bashar al-Assad and is afraid of this, as they are aware that if a democratic choice were to be made as they claim then the Syrians will choose their leadership, and more specifically they will choose President al-Assad.

Regarding the mission of UN Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Ibrahimi, Abu Saeed affirmed that the Commission supports Ibrahimi and is prepared to offer anything that could ensure the success of his mission.

Putin: No-One Has the Right to Tell Russia How and to Whom it Exports Weapons if Exports Don't Contradict UN Sanctions

(original article at:  http://208.43.232.81/eng/22/2012/10/17/447743.htm )

MOSCOW, (SANA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said that no-one has the right to tell Russia how and to whom it may export weapons if the exports don't contradict UN sanctions.

In a speech on Wednesday, Putin said that Russia only signs agreements to export weapons and military equipment with legitimate authorities to boost the defensive capabilities of independent countries after careful study of the situation in the region in question, noting that not all exporters of weapons are so methodical.

Putin also said that unilateral or group sanctions outside the framework of the UN, particularly politicized sanctions, do not represent a rule for international law.

He also called for increasing the level of technical military cooperation among Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and Vietnam.

Syrian Passenger Plane, Forced to Land by Turkish Authorities, Arrives in Damascus

DAMASCUS, (SANA)- The Syrian Airbus 320 passenger plane coming from Moscow, which was forced by the Turkish authorities to land in Ankara Airport on Wednesday, arrived in Damascus at 05:10 am Thursday dawn.

Director of the Syrian Arab Airlines, Ghaida Abdullatif, stressed in a statement to SANA that the Turkish authorities assaulted the crew before allowing the plane to take off from Ankara Airport because the crew members refused to sign a document saying that the plane made an emergency landing.

"Turkish F-16 warplanes forced the Syrian plane to land to be searched, doing so in violation of the international procedures in terms of not formerly notifying neither its pilot nor the Turkish civil airline, which almost caused an air accident due to warplanes coming close at an uncalculated distance," said Abdullatif.

She stressed that the Syrian plane was not carrying any illegal materials and that the cargo was in compliance with the international laws and systems having a legal bill of landing.

Abdullatif assured that all the passengers are in a good health condition, however suffering a very bad psychological state.

The Director of the Syrian Arab Airlines considered what happened as "an inhumane act" that indicates a flaw in dealing with the rules and laws stated in the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.

"Added to that," Abdullatif said, "the long hours during which the passengers were locked without being provided any services or even informed of what was going on, which left them in a state of panic and a very bad psychological condition."

She noted that the Syrian Arab Airlines will file a protest to the International Union of Aviation and the Arab Aviation Union as well as all the international and humanitarian organizations against the inhumane treatment the plane's crew and passengers were subjected to.

She called for separating the political side from the civil aviation in all countries of the world as the civil aviation is a way of communication among peoples.

Russia Asks Turkey for Explanation

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its concern over the risks which the passengers of the Syrian plane, including 17 Russians, were subjected to being locked for 8 hours on board.

A statement by the Ministry on Thursday stressed that the Turkish side did not inform the Russian Embassy in Ankara of the presence of Russian citizens on board the plane, adding that "we only knew about that through electronic media."

The statement said Russian consulate staff and a doctor were denied permission to see the Russian passengers without giving explanations despite the Russian Embassy's asking for permission from the Turkish authorities.

"This came in violation of the bilateral consular agreements," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in its statement, stressing that the Russian passengers were not allowed over 8 hours to come down to the Airport building and were not provided any food, as they were only given permission to go down to the Airport land for a short while.

The statement stressed that the Russian side insists on getting an explanation of such acts by the Turkish authorities towards the Russian citizens and on taking measures that prevent the repetition of such incidents in the future.

A source at the Ministry also said the Russian Embassy in Ankara immediately called the Turkish Foreign Ministry and asked for an explanation about what the Syrian plane was subjected to in the course of its flight from Moscow to Damascus, calling upon the Turkish authorities to assume their responsibilities for the safety of the Russian passengers who were on board.

In the same context, a high-ranking source at a Russian weapons export institution dismissed the existence of any type of weapons or military technology devices and systems on board the Syrian plane.

The source highlighted that "Russia has not halted its cooperation in the field of military technologies with Syria and will provide Syria with any type of military technologies in case of need according to the rules followed and not secretly, particularly via a passenger plane."

Diplomatic Source in Moscow: Russia's Ambassador in Ankara Visited Turkish Foreign Ministry Concerning the Syrian Civilian Aircraft Incident

A diplomatic source in Moscow announced on Thursday that the Russian ambassador in Ankara visited the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

The source indicated that the visit was related to the incident of forcing the Syrian civilian aircraft to land in Ankara airport, which in fact was on a regular flight from Moscow to Damascus with 17 Russian passengers on board, among them 7 children.

The Russian authorities expressed concern over the incident, considering that it threatened its nationals and was a violation of international conventions in treating civilian passengers.

There have been no further information on the visit of the Russian ambassador.

Foreign and Expatriates Ministry stressed in a statement earlier in the day that the Syrian civilian aircraft was carrying no weapons or prohibited goods, considering the hostile Turkish behavior an additional evidence on the aggressive policy adopted by Erdogan's government, taking into account the training, harboring and facilitating infiltration through its borders and bombing the Syrian territories.

Forum of NPF Parties and National Powers: Comprehensive National Dialogue Based on Syria Sovereignty

original at:  http://208.43.232.81/eng/21/2012/10/08/445888.htm

DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Activities of the political forum organized by the coalition parties of the National Progressive Front (NPF) and national and progressive powers under the title of "Political Dialogue and National Reconciliation: Path to Restore Stability and Security" kicked off on Monday at the Damascus-based Dama Rose Hotel.

In a speech during the opening of the Forum, Secretary General of the Arab Socialist Union Party, Safwan Qudsi, said that Syria is facing a massive conspiracy, some parts of it international, others are regional and some are Arab, all of which seeking to cancel Syria and erase it from history, but Syria showed its ability to stand fast and confront the conspiracy which it will foil.

In turn, Secretary General of the Socialist Unionists Party, Fayez Ismael, voiced his party's rejection of any foreign interference in Syria, asserting that Syria will be victorious and lauding the role of the Syrian Arab Army in defending the country with the people's support.

He said that most of those who are involved in the events don't know why they're fighting, and that part of them are outsiders fighting in a strange land who are armed by the US others.

Similarly, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Syrian Communist Party, Ammar Bekdash, said that the forum shows the insistence of national parties and forces to defend Syria in the face of the attack waged by imperialist and Zionist forces and regressive regional regimes, with Syria's enemies employing every possible method including embargos, media warfare, vandalism, mass murder and assassination.

Bekdash pointed out to the deep roots of the escalating conspiracy against Syria, calling for dealing with the manifestations of the crisis through the principle of "words and opinions are faced with words and opinion, but vandalism and terrorism are faced with the rule of law," in addition to dealing with the economic and social conditions that fostered conspiracies.

He also stressed the need for the main goal of economic and social policies to be improving the living standards of citizens, saying that his party presented a memo earlier this year presenting ideas for boosting the economic and social aspects of national steadfastness.

For his part, Secretary General of al-Ahed (Pledge) National Party, Ghassan Abdelaziz Othman, said that the crimes, destruction and targeting of national economy that are witnessed in Syria have nothing to do with any legitimate demands, affirming that external forces exploited the reality created by some policies that affected the majority of the people, usurping the public's legitimate demands.

He said that the conspiracy against Syria reflects the instability of the region, which the west views through colonial eyes that only want to preserve their interests.

In turn, Secretary General of the Syrian National Social Party, Issam Mahayri, denounced all the suspicious calls for summoning an external solution and distorting the reality of the crisis deliberately, affirming that dialogue is a healthy state and the path to foiling the conspiracy and improving political discourse in Syria.

He also stressed that it's the duty of the state and its establishments and forces to cooperate with the army and armed forces to confront terrorism, denouncing all those who support, participate in, and defend terrorism.

Mahayri also asserted that what is happening in Syria aims at undermining the resistance, saluting all the allies and friendly forces who stood alongside Syria in the face of the conspiracy targeting it.

In a similar speech, Secretary General of the Arab Socialists Movement, Ahmad al-Ahmad, pointed out that despite the scale of the conspiracy against Syria, the west and its Arab servants failed to achieve their goals, noting that this came about due to the unity of the Syrian people and the heroism of the Syrian Arab Army.

For his part, Secretary General of the Democratic Socialist Unionist Party, Fadlallah Nassereddin, said that what is happening in the Arab world poses a threat to pan-Arab and national security, with the Arab-Israeli conflict being the most intense crisis and the one that threatens world security and peace due to the attempts by the US-led western forces to control the region in coordination of Israel.

In turn, Secretary General of the Syrian Unified Communist Party, Hanin Nemr, said that nationalist Arab forces realize that the Arab-Israeli conflict sums up all the conflicts in the region, and that Syria has been involved in it since the 1950s, foiling one conspiracy after the other and paying the price in thousands of martyrs, along with the pressure, siege, threats and direct attacks it suffered as a result of its positions.

Nemr affirmed that the road to correcting mistakes and negative aspects is through peaceful methods approved by the new constitution and political parties law, and that those who chose the path of violence must realize that their path is blocked and leads nowhere, while dialogue is wide open for national opposition that isn't bound to foreign forces.

He also stressed that the time has come for internal dialogue, but it cannot be useful as long as weapons and mercenaries are flowing into Syria, adding that foreign interference hinders any political solution to the crisis.

Similarly, Secretary General of the Arab Democratic Union Party, Ghassan Ahmad Othman, said that Syria is being targeted, as it always has been, due to its progressive pan-Arabic stances and its role in the resistance in the Arab region, stressing the need to support the Syrian people's legitimate demands by transitioning into a pluralist, civil and democratic Syria.

The two-day forum tackles the topics of political dialogue, the army as the shield of homeland, combating terrorism, rejection of foreign intervention, national reconciliation and protecting the state and institutions.

NPF Parties, National and Progressive Forces Alliance Forum: National Dialogue based on Syria's Sovereignty and Rejection of Foreign Interference

The political forum which is being held by the National Progressive Front (NPF) parties and National and progressive forces continued on Monday its activities under the theme of "Political Dialogue and National Reconciliation are the Means to Restore Security and Stability".

Secretary-General of the Arab Socialist Union Party, Safwan Qudsi, pointed out in a speech that holding this forum by the NPF parties and the national and progressive forces would pave the ground for a national, popular and party situation that raises awareness about what was standing in the Syrian daily life and about the necessity of maintaining it.

He stressed that Syria is facing a huge conspiracy, adding that the conspiracy will fail and Syria will stay strong, active and influential.

For his part, Secretary-General of the Socialist Unionists Party, Fayez Ismael, stressed his party's rejection and condemnation of any foreign interference in Syria, adding that today's war is unparalleled because of the number of terrorists from various nationalities involved in it.

Ismael said that the Arab reactionary countries and the Arab League Secretary-General, particularly Saudi Arabia and Qatar are allied with the US in the conspiracy against Syria, pointing out that the US is selling arms to the criminal killers from the US base in Incirlik in Turkey and Saudi Arabia and Qatar are paying the price.

Secretary-General of the Central Committee of the Syrian Communist Party, Ammar Bikdash, said that this forum highlights the persistence of the national forces and parties to defending Syria in face of the fierce attack launched by the imperialism and Zionism in addition to other regional reactionary regimes.

Secretary-General of the National Covenant Party, Ghassan Abdul-Aziz Othman, stressed that the criminal acts and destruction and sabotage in addition to targeting the national economy can never be related to any legitimate demands, adding that the political movement was clear from the beginning to be the first step to a war against Syria.

For his part, Secretary-General of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, Isam al-Mahayri, condemned all suspicious calls for a foreign solution and the deliberate distortion of defining the crisis in Syria.

He stressed that the political dialogue is a sustainable healthy situation and it is the way to curb and foil the conspiracy and conspirators.

Secretary-General of the Arab Socialist Movement, Ahmad al-Ahmad, said that in spite of the volume of conspiracy hatched against Syria and its repercussions, the colonial west has failed to achieve this conspiracy which has strategic dimensions and threatens security and stability in the region.

He added that the west has failed by virtue of the Syrian people's unity and the sacrifices of the Syrian Arab Army.

Chairman of the General Federation of Trade Unions, Mohammad Shaaban Azzoz, pointed out that Syria's army, people and leadership are targeted because of the national stances which reject a compromise on the Palestinian Cause and naturalization with the Israeli occupation.

He stressed the importance of dialogue with all sides except for those who called for foreign interference and arms, adding that the labor class has lost more than 500 workers who were martyred in line of duty.

For his part, member of the political bureau of the Socialist Unionist Party, Khaled al-Abboud, considered the Front Parties and the national and progressive forces alliance as having many tools to orchestrate a political struggle against another political team trying to attack the state and the society.

He pointed out to the importance of political dialogue as an exit from the crisis in Syria.

original at: http://208.43.232.81/eng/22/2012/10/06/445523.htm

Oct 06, 2012

ANKARA, (SANA)-Turkish Yurt Newspaper said that the government of the Development and Justice Party has to take a neutral stance on the events in Syria instead of supporting the groups of the so-called the armed opposition.

"Turkey was inevitably affected by the events in Syria… so it was very necessary for it to adopt new polices and be aware that instigating others will bring nothing but more damages.. The Turkish government was wrong at seeing the whole region through a sectarian vision," Journalist Ali Sirmen wrote in an article published by the Newspaper.

He added that the Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan was carrying out the policies of the US in Syria and the region, bearing the political and martial burden of this policy .

The Newspaper also revealed that the bomber which was used to launch the mortar on the Turkish Akcakale town is only used by NATO.

In an article by its Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardag, Yurt clarified that it had information from a reliable source saying that Turkey was the side which sent the mortars to the members of so-called ''the free army".

"Those information affirm that the Government of Erdogan's wrong policy was behind the falling of the mortar in the town that claimed the lives of 5 Turks." Yanaradag added.

Al-Moallem: Key to Make Brahimi's Mission a Success is in the Hands of Countries which Fund and Arm Terrorists in Syria

Minister of Foreign Affairs Walid al-Moallem

original at:  http://208.43.232.81/eng/22/2012/10/01/444704.htm

Oct 01, 2012

NEW YORK, (SANA) – Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem affirmed that the key to make the mission of UN Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi a success lies having Syria's neighboring countries, other countries and the west cease their support and harboring of terrorists, warning that the US and all those who support terrorism are bound to get a taste of its poison.

In an interview on al-Mayadine TV broadcast in full on Monday, October 01, 2012 al-Moallem voiced confidence that the tolerant and patriotic Syrian people will overcome the crisis by engaging in a comprehensive national reconciliation that would reconstruct the Syrian social fabric and build a better future for Syria and its children.

The Minister pointed out that the positions of countries that Syria considers sides in the conspiracy against it haven't changed based on what he witnessed during the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, noting that there were other grey positions that have now shifted to supporting Syria, demanding ending violence and finding a polticial, peaceful solution to the situation in Syria through comprehensive national dialogue.

On the calls of the Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi for implementing Chapter VII of the UN Security Council against Syria, al-Moallem said "the reason for his obsession with Chapter VII could be his jealousy from his predecessor and his work in Libya."

Al-Moallem said that al-Arabi should remember that more than 100 resolutions were issued by the UN and the Security Council against Israel and none of them were under Chapter VII. adding "I don't know why he insists on chapter VII when he knows that it will be exploited to wage a military action against Syria."‬

Responding to a question on "loss of legitimacy," al-Moallem said that those who talk about this are either ignorant and need to cement their own legitimacy, or members of the conspiracy against Syria who infringe upon the Syrian people's right to determine their own future, adding that even Security Council resolutions affirmed that the people alone have the right to decide their own future.

"No-one in the world can decide who leads Syria other than the Syrian people… this is a delusion they need to abandon unless their goal is to extend the crisis, which I believe to be the most likely," he added.

original at: http://208.43.232.81/eng/22/2012/09/27/444009.htm

About his position on the events in the Middle East, including Syria the Russian President said:" "Our position is to encourage change for the better in all countries. We are not imposing, especially by force, what we believe in, but we want to stimulate the internal development," said Putin.

He went on to say "We have warned that we must act with caution, without imposing by force in order not to cause chaos. And what do we see today is a chaotic condition."

Situation in Syria is Now Better than any Previous Day of Conspiracy says Al-Zoubi (Sept 21, 2012)

Sep 21, 2012

original at:  http://208.43.232.81/eng/21/2012/09/21/442845.htm

DAMASCUS, (SANA)- Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi stressed that the situation in the country is now better than any previous time in the course of conspiracy against Syria, and that in terms of security, the crisis is almost over.

In an interview with the Syrian TV on Friday, al-Zoubi said the scene in Syria has become clear as everybody now knows the identity and place of the enemy as well as its military and political support channels, external backers and internal tools.

"When we speak of victory, we mean the victory for Syria through foiling the external conspiracy and its internal tools," the Minister said.

He warned of Qatar's policy of supporting terrorists in Syria as posing a danger to the international security and peace, noting that most of Qatar's rulers are affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda.

Al-Zoubi said that Qatar has been turned into an exchequer for al-Qaeda to carry out a subversive scheme against Syria as well as against the region and the world.

The Information Minister wondered "for whose sake are Qatar's rulers doing so?" considering that those rulers do not have the political ability, experience or understanding to have their own political project.

Al-Zoubi added that "When Qatar prepares sleeper cells in UAE and speaks of turning Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah into independent Islamic emirates, that threatens not only these areas' regimes but also the stability of their people, their identity and the international peace and security in the region which is considered the core of the economic world.

"They are only the funder or the cashier of the conspiracy, while the order of disbursement comes from another place. They are mere tools in the service of the Zionist project in the region," al-Zoubi added.

On the policies of the Turkish government, Minister al-Zoubi stressed that the Turkish government is providing enormous service to Israel.

As for the statements of the Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi, al-Zoubi said that Egypt had always been and still is Syria's partner in all historic stages, adding that if Egypt restored its pan-Arab role, it will find that the extension of that role is in Damascus, and not in other Arab capitals.

Answering a question on Syria's stance towards the quartet initiative, the Minister reiterated that Syria welcomes any effort that serves the interest of the Syrian people and stops the conspiracy, wondering about the intentions of the countries participating in the initiative.

Regarding Iran's stances, al-Zoubi said "The Iranian stance has been clear since the start of the crisis… Tehran stands by the Syrian people and state. This stance is identical with the stances of Russia and China and all friendly countries."

He stressed that Saudi Arabia and Turkey constitute a part of the aggression on Syria, "therefore if their intentions are good, they must halt providing the gunmen and terrorists with funds and weapons and stop media incitement against Syria as a demonstration of good will."

Al-Zoubi called upon the countries and foreign parties participating in the aggression on Syria to halt this conduct and seize the political opportunity to back down on it.

"If they think they can achieve victory in Syria, they are deeply mistaken because in Syria only the Syrian people will win," he reaffirmed.

The Minister stressed that the Syrian people will defeat the conspiracy and thwart its project on the ground thanks to the wisdom of the Syrian leadership and the heroism of the Syrian armed forces.

On whether President Bashar al-Assad has recently given an interview to an Egyptian newspaper, al-Zoubi stressed that the President has not made any statement or given any interview to any Egyptian newspaper or magazine.

He explained that what has been circulated in media is parts of a chat that took place between President al-Assad and a 9-member Egyptian media delegation in the framework of a personal visit.

Al-Zoubi stressed that the conversation was not recorded at all as it was not meant to be an interview, but what seems to have happened is that one of the visitors took out of context and gathered parts of the conversation which "was not prepared in the first place and should not be analyzed or built on or considered as political stances whether what came in it was true or untrue."

The Information Minister stressed that "when President al-Assad decides to say something or declare a political stance he's got the media tools and will say it with courage as we know him."

On the statements that there is an international struggle on Syria, al-Zoubi stressed that the basic issue is the steadfastness of Syria in the face of the conspiracy, adding that all countries were surprised by the ability of the Syrian people and leadership to overcome the plot.

The Minister said that the statement of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in which he compared Al Qaeda to a regular army is odd, adding that "Ki-moon should not have made such a stance, as the Syrian Arab Army is an army of a sovereign state and was established by the constitution of this state, while Al Qaeda is an extremist terrorist organization funded by intelligence agencies."

On Saudi Arabia preventing Syrians from participating in Hajj pilgrimage, al-Zoubi noted that this is the first time such an action was taken by anyone other than Israel, stressing that the actions of Al Saud's regime constitutes a violation of the religious duties it must uphold.

Answering a question about the Syrian economy, the Minister replied that the Syrian economy had been targeted since the first day of the crisis, adding that Syria is capable of confronting the crisis regardless of its duration without suffering fragmentation or economic downfall.

Regarding the issue of refugees and the violations they suffer at the hands of some countries and their exploitation in some international circles, al-Zoubi said that this issue has been exploited politically in an amoral and illegal manner by these countries, noting that Syria hosted millions of Arabs out of commitment to moral duties.

He called upon Syrians abroad to return to their homeland, saying "it's true that the circumstances were difficult and they had to leave, but no-one closed the door behind them.

Sep 04, 2012 - original at:  http://208.43.232.81/eng/22/2012/09/04/439558.htm

BEIRUT, (SANA)-Secretary General of Hizbollah Hassan Nasrallah underlined that the stance of national resistance in Lebanon towards events in Syria is different from what has happened in other countries, as it confronts the US-backed Zionist project , supports resistance and shows readiness for dialogue and reforms.

"They want Syria to shift into an Arab country of renunciation.. for that, they send weapons and money into Syria and issue fatwa of killing," Nasrallah said in a speech to al-Mayadin TV broadcast on Monday.

Nasrallah called for the halt of violence in Syria, start dialogue in order to make a political settlement in light of the presence of a guaranteeing counties like Russia and Iran, protect Syria from chaos and destruction.

He ruled out any western military intervention in Syria, saying the reason is the existence of a problem in the capability as the European countries can't interfere without the USA which left Iraq and as the repercussions of such intervention are open for any accounts.

"Syria admitted some mistakes and showed readiness for dialogue and reforms, but we see that the opposition abroad calls for an international military interference though this one has killed thousands of people in Iraq," Nasrallah stressed.

Nasrallah stressed that Iran, as a president of the Non-Aligned Movement, exerts genuine efforts and shows cooperation with any regional and international effort to find a solution for the crisis in Syria as it works on the formation of a serious and genuine 'contact group' to reach an end for the crisis in Syria.

Al-Moallem: We Believe that the USA is the Major Player against Syria and the Rest are Its Instruments

Aug 28, 2012 - original at:  http://208.43.232.81/eng/22/2012/08/28/438468.htm

LONDON, (SANA) – Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem affirmed that he believes the USA is the major player against Syria and the rest are its instruments under its control.

In an interview with the British newspaper the Independent conducted by journalist Robert Fisk, al-Moallem said that America is behind Syria's violence, and that he doesn't understand its slogan of fighting international terrorism when it's supporting terrorism in Syria.

He pointed out that over 60% of the country's violence comes from abroad, specifically from Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, with the United States exercising its influence over all others, adding "When the Americans say, 'We are supplying the opposition with sophisticated instruments of telecommunications', isn't this part of a military effort, when they supply the opposition with USD 25 million?"

Al-Moallem pointed out that the goal of what is happening in Syria is to pressure it regarding its relations with Iran and resistance movements in Palestine and Lebanon, saying "We were told by some Western envoy at the beginning of this crisis that relations between Syria and Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, Syria and Hamas are the major elements behind this crisis. If we settle this issue, they will help end the crisis."

He went on to say that the Americans succeeded in frightening the Gulf countries about Iran's nuclear capabilities, persuading them to buy arms from the US and fulfilling Franklin Roosevelt's 1936 dream of maintaining bases for oil transportation.

Regarding the European positions towards the Syrian crisis, al-Moallem said "I tell the Europeans: I don't understand your slogan about the welfare of the Syrian people when you are supporting 17 resolutions against the welfare of the Syrian people."

As for Qatari-Syrian relations, al-Moallem noted that Qatar was the one who reneged on these relations, saying that he met Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in Doha in November 2011 when the Arab League launched its initiative which led to sending observers to Syria, pointing out that during this meeting, Hamad told him "If you agree to this initiative, I will change the attitude of Al Jazeera and I will tell Sheikh Yusef al-Qaradawi to support Syria and reconciliation, and I have put down some billions of dollars to rebuild Syria."

He added that he asked Hamad about having had very close relations with Muammar Gaddafi and why he sent his aircrafts to attack Libya and be part of NATO, with Hamad responding by saying simply "Because we don't want to lose our momentum in Tunis and Egypt."

Al-Moallem stressed that the crisis started with legitimate demands subsequently addressed by legislation and reforms and even a new constitution, but then came foreign elements who used these legitimate demands to hijack the peaceful agenda of the people.

"I don't accept as a citizen to return back centuries to a regime which can bring Syria backwards. In principle …no government in the world can accept an armed terrorist group, some of them coming from abroad, controlling streets and villages in the name of jihad," he said, adding that as a Syrian citizen, he is sad to see what's happening in Syria, compared with how it was two years ago.

"There are many Syrians like me – eager to see Syria return to the old days when we were proud of our security," he concluded.

Own comment:
(1) The results of the Darrya killings of the armed gangs can be seen in the following video below. Very graphic material portraying a lot of dead people. This is all very sad. Why did they take up arms in the first place? Why couldn't these people have invested in dialogue with the Syrian Government? You can't expect to run around with guns, killing people who disagree with you, and then survive.
